Clay Workshops from my studio

Half-day and One-day workshops

There are a wide range of tasks available which are suitable for even the complete beginner. These workshops are also a great opportunity for the more experienced artist to explore their own ideas with my support. All tools and equipment are provided, with a charge made on the day to cover the cost of firing and the quantity of materials that you use. Your work will normally be ready to collect within three weeks. All workshops with the exception of my Mugs and Jugs workshop are designed so that you can complete the task on the day. With the Mugs and Jugs workshop you would need to come back to my studio for a half day in order to glaze your work and subsequently have it fired again; this costs an additional £25. Although unnecessary, a similar arrangement can be made for any workshop if you specifically want to add glaze to work that you have made. Contact me to discuss options for glazing.

HALF-DAY WORKSHOPS run from 10am till 1pm and cost £30 per person including drinks and biscuits.

ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS run from 10am till 4pm and £60 per person including drinks and biscuits and a light homemade lunch.

GLASS WITH CLAY (10am till 4pm on 30 July 2019)

Make a wall panel or three dimensional form from porcelain or stoneware clay containing indents which can be filled with pieces of glass. Once fired the glass will have melted forming a lustrous surface which is a beautiful contrast to the clay. You can bring along your own glass or pay for the glass that I have in stock. Even bottle glass works well for this task.

SMALL CHICKENS (10am till 1pm on 7 September 2019)

Use a pinch pot technique and hand modelling in terracotta clay to make a couple of small chickens. You will then decorate them with coloured slips and underglaze colours.

HEAD PLANTER (10am till 4pm on 14 September 2019)

With the help of simple bowl mould you will make basic form of a head and shoulders. You will add features before decorating with coloured slips and underglaze colours.

GREEN-MAN MASK (10am till 4pm on 19 October 2019)

Make a mask to go in your garden. You will use images of historical Green men and a wide range of examples of my own work to inspire you to create a ceramic mask of your own. Your mask will be made with crank clay fired to stoneware making it frost proof and suitable to be placed outdoors.

DECORATIVE COIL POTS (10am till 4pm on 9 November 2019)

Create a highly decorative coil pot with the help of a range of simple bowl moulds.

A MINIATURE WORLD (10am till 1pm on 23 November 2019)

Model a miniature landscape which you can hold in your hand and then add underglaze colours and melted glass to bring your piece to life.

These provide the opportunity to make more ambitious pieces of work such as bird houses and animal sculptures. Contact me for more information.
